ProLiteracy: Journey of an Adult Learner featured on National TV Show

ProLiteracy announced that the national cable TV show, Secret Lives of American, has filmed an episode about an adult who has struggled all of her life with low literacy skills. ProLiteracy worked with the show’s team for several months, providing them with resources, statistics, and finding an adult learner willing to share his/her story. Cleo, the adult learner who was chosen, shares her literacy journey, with the episode filmed in her hometown.

The show will premiere on Friday, June 3 at 10pm ET/PT. Pivot TV, Participant Media’s Television Network.

Latham Adult Literacy Awards: Call for Nominations!

As we prepare to celebrate National Adult and Family Literacy Week in September, 2016, The Literacy Council has decided to also celebrate local literacy leaders. In memory Of Jay Latham, we have established a Literacy Award that will be given to both an individual and an organization who has demonstrated dedication and commitment to adult literacy in Lancaster and/or Lebanon counties. Nominations must be received by June 30, 2016, and awards will be presented at a ceremony in late September. Please click on the links below for the nomination applications.

Matched Pairs 2016: Success!

The third annual An Evening of Matched Pairs was held on Sunday, April 10th at the Lancaster Marriott. Approximately 250 guests enjoyed the tastes and wine/beer pairings of 18 local restaurants who donated their time to participate in our event. The auctions and game of chance proved to be a fun and exciting way to give to The Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon. Next year’s date is already reserved, so mark your calendars:  April 2, 2017 at the Lancaster Marriott. We hope you can come and join the fun at our 4th annual event, and have a great time supporting the teachers and students of The Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon.
